Photography Exhibit - Congo/Women: Portraits of War

There is a great exhibit coming to Washington, DC on March 5. Congo/Women is an international photography exhibition that works to shed light on the continuing violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Over five million people have been killed in the past ten years, with women and girls being subjected to extreme gender violence. The bold, evocative work of photojournalists Lynsey Addario, Marcus Bleasdale, Ron Haviv and James Nachtwey is accompanied by several contextual essays. This is very closely related to the work that we are doing on the In the Light project. If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by the event.

    Could you tell me the dates for this photo exhibit. I know that it opened yesterday and your notation says that yesterday’s opening was to be in the Rayburn HOB. Will the exhibit remain there or move to a gallery? What is needed to enter the Rayburn building — just a drivers license? I heard the photo exhibit being discussed on NPR yesterday but missed the dates and location. Thanks.

    @Larry

    The exhibit is part of a tour. It was only in DC for the day. It will also be showing in NY. If I hear that it’s coming back, I’ll be sure to add it to the blog. Here’s the link to the current tour dates: http://congowomen.org/tour/
