On Bad Days…

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

e-mails like the one I received yesterday mean so much. Yesterday I was having one of those days where nothing was going as planned. I was rethinking all of my decisions and wondering if photography was exactly what I should be doing at this moment. Then, I received an email from a bride whose photos I had just sent the day prior. It said

Hi Shannon,

Thank you so much, you did a beautiful job with the photos. I was saying to my mom that you were so unobtrusive, but whenever I would
think “oh, that would be a good picture,” I’d see you out of the corner of my eye, already there taking the photo. I especially love some of the (in)formal individual portraits you took. And looking at the pictures of us during the ceremony, those photos really capture how I felt in those moments.

Again, thank you, I am so glad that you were our photographer. I wish you all the best in your photography business. With all your talent I have no doubt it will continue to grow and flourish.

These e-mails mean the world to me. It was an instant reminder of why this is exactly where I am supposed to be, even when it’s not easy. I’ll post some photos from the weddng tomorrow.

Interview?! Me? Eeek

Monday, March 10th, 2008

There was a time when I could barely look at photos after I took them. (Ok, so I still get like that at times.) So, when Dale said he wanted to interview me, I shrieked. You mean, not only will people look at my photos, but they’ll also read about me. Yeah, I’m honored, but I don’t know what to think about it, much less what to say.

But I went along with it anyway. The article is up now, but I just can’t read it yet. I literally went to the page, peeked at a few words and then dived right back off the site.

So can someone read it for me and tell me what you think?

Thaaaaaaannnnnks!

Studio Theatre 30th Anniversary Gala

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I shot the Studio Theatre’s 3oth Anniversary Gala on Saturday. Great event. I’m personally a big fan of the Studio Theatre. The plays I have seen there are great. But more importantly, to me anyway, the building is amazing. Maybe it’s the brick walls, the lounge areas, the urban meets modern feel..i don’t know… but, me gusta.

Back to the event…this was probably one of the most challenging things I’ve had to shoot. Now, I love candles and I’m big on ambience, but for a photographer, at times it screams nightmare. The lighting was so low sometimes. And those were the same times that using a heavy flash would be inappropriate.

Luckily, fast lenses are my friend (and I’m great) and in the end it worked. They were very pleased with the photos and said they were the best gala photos they’ve ever received. Score!

Here are a few from the event… Click on the image to see the larger version. I’ll post more soon.
