Shaila & Craig [Negril, Jamaica]

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

I’ve been to Jamaica several times now (I was born there after all), but going back for this wedding was extra special. It was my first time going to Negril, the part of the island known for its long stretches of white sandy beaches and remarkable sunsets. I also have a special place in my heart for small, beach weddings. The sun was shining, the couple was smiling, Red Stripe was on tap…all the makings of a good time.

Feature in Eco-Beautiful Weddings Magazine

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

(I’m just going to pretend that it hasn’t been months since I’ve posted. Happy New Year nonetheless….Now carry on…)

There’s a new online magazine and blog called Eco-Beautiful Weddings. It showcases eco-friendly weddings, designs and inspirations. One of the weddings that we did last year was just featured in the Spring Issue (pgs. 32-34). Check it out if you have a chance.

Here’s to MJ

Friday, June 26th, 2009

I still can’t believe it. While I sort out all of the emotions that I feel about Michael Jackson passing away, here’s my favorite MJ photograph:

Eeek! Has It Really Been That Long?

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I’ve been TERRIBLE with updating this blog and it’s a pity because so many (insert adjective here) things have been going on with Sevan. Come to think of it, that’s probably the reason I haven’t posted in so long. The other reason is because one of the fonts isn’t working properly on the site and it completely blows me to look at it. *shrugs shoulders. I guess I should just fix it.

Well, before I go work on that, let me just say that there is so much updating about the Sevan world that I plan on doing. We’ve done a lot of great shoots, met some cool people, have a new kick ass website and are planning the launch of…you’ll have to wait to hear more about this launch.

So, that’s all I have for today, but there’s plenty more coming…

Club Relaford

Monday, March 9th, 2009

A few weeks ago, I mentioned the shoot that we did for Club Relaford–an online political magazine. The article with Secretary Schmirer is now up. Check it out when you have a chance.

What a Crazy Week!

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

The end of last week was abso crazy. I was editing photos from 2 great shoots that we did the previous week. Then there there’s the new website that sucked up a lot of time (hopefully it will be up by Wednesday).  The point is, I completely neglected this blog towards the end of the week. BUT…that just means I have some exciting stuff to show this week.

March Madness!!!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

And no, not basketball…although, I’m pretty hype about that also. Here are the exciting (obligatory adjective) promotions that we’re running for the month of March.

Brides/Grooms: Last month, we were offering 30% off package prices for the month of February. If you missed it, there is still hope for you. Reduced help, but help nonetheless. Sign a contract in March and receive 20% off the total cost. Still a pretty sweet deal.

Models/Actors: This is a new concept that we’re trying out for all those people that need to update their headshots or modeling portfolio. For February, we’re going to shoot you for free! We realize that you might only need 1 or 2 shots so we’re giving you the chance to get that. We’re selling each high resolution file for $20. So if you only need 1 shot, you only pay $20. nAlternatively, you can buy all the files on DVD for $175.00. Yup, another sweet deal.

{AND when we launch our new photography site, we’re going to give away photo shoots for 3 lucky bloggers in the DC area. Stay tuned…}

Go Green or Go Home

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I definitely thought I came up with that clever little heading, but like all good things, it’s already being used. And definitely for good reason.

*Steps on soapbox

The environment is pretty damn important, no? So why wouldn’t we take care of it. I mean if we don’t who will and when…

*Wipes face and steps off soapbox

So, we try to be pretty green around here from using Zipcars to recycled business cards. (I’ll have more tips on greening your business at a later date.)

This post is actually about WVSA’s ARTiculate gallery exhibit opening on March 5th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, (I know, how completely backwards of me to wait until the end to say what this is about.)

Here are more details on the event:

On Thursday, March 5 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, WVSA’s ARTiculate Gallery will have an exhibit opening and artist reception featuring artwork on the theme “Going Green” by the artists in the ARTiculate Employment Training and Outreach Program. This opening will include great art, music, food, drinks and fun and the exhibit will run through May.

The ARTiculate Gallery is located at 16th & L Street, NW and open Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. For more information, call (202) 261-0204.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

This weekend ended a great month of shoots. On Friday, I photographed a dance group in Maryland. One of the things that I love about being a photographer is that it allows me to embrace all the unique things that make up my personality. I love dance. I think in a former life (if I believe in such things), I was a dancer. Seeing young kids doing something positive is also a win.

On Saturday I worked on headshots. Also a great shoot. The challenge (that I love) with headshots is trying to make sure that you capture who the person is. I’m pretty confident that I accomplished that. Photos to come soon from both shoots.

The other thing that I’ve been working on this weekend are 3 brand spanking new promotions for March. Let’s face it, times are hard, but who doesn’t need great photos? I’ll announce the promotions mid-day.

It’s My Birthday!!!!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Well actually it’s tomorrow, but I plan on doing some celebrating tonight. I have two shoots on Friday so that kind of rules anything out for the actual day. I don’t mind though.  I actually feel lucky to be doing something that I love on my birthday.

So here’s the weekend line-up.

Work: The first shoot is at 10 am tomorrow morning and it’s for Club Relaford magazine. Then later that night, I’ll take photos of a new drummer+DJ duo at Station 9 on U street.

Definitely Play: All work and no play is a bad idea. So since I believe in having my fair share of fun (who doesn’t), I’ll join some of my closest friends for happy hour at Indulj. Then I’ll tip-toe over to Almaz when nobody is looking. Almaz is a relatively new Ethiopan restaurant on U street and I just found out that they have a reggae night on Thursdays. AND they play reggae dub. If there’s one thing that you should know about me, it’s that I love reggae and my new obsession is dub. I appreciate the mellowness of it…the heavy bass lines….the…wait…you don’t know what dub is? Hmmmm…ok then…peep the video below.

Work…check…happy hour…check…reggae…check…oh yeah, then we’ll do dinner on Saturday…check… Yup, sounds like a solid weekend to me!

Photography Shows in Washington, DC

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

My new quest to participate in at least one art show has forced me to do some research on upcoming photography/art exhibits in the DC area. Since I couldn’t find a complete list anywhere, I decided to put what I’ve found here. I’ll continue to update it. Some I’ll attend, some I’ll try to participate in and the others just seem really cool.

Artomatic: The 10th anniversary of Artomatic will be held May 29-July 5. Registration begins in March and will be open to all artists — including painters, photographers, sculptors, graphic designers, musicians, poets, actors and dancers. Artomatic is an unjuried event, so all artists are welcome, from professionals to beginners.

DCist Exposed: The third annual DCist Exposed Photography Show will be held at The Gallery at Flashpoint on February 20, 2009. The show closes on March 7, 2009.

Soul Rebel: I’ve avoided putting closed events on this list, BUT this is Bob Marley and it’s an exhibit I’ll definitely go see before it closes. The photographs are by David Burnett. The exhibit runs until March 28, 2009 at the Govinda Gallery.

WPA 28th Annual Art Gallery Auction: This noted event has grown in recognition and reputation as Washington’s premiere contemporary art event for not only art collectors but also business, social, and art leaders in the community.
